VPN stability issues - not sure why 21-12-2008 03:36
G'day :)

Trying out Wippien with a view to migrating away from Hamachi, but having issues with test setup VPN connections dropping intermittently.

I have five PCs running Wippien - four on site one off site.

Any VPN connection to the main machine can intermittently go to blue IP but with no discernable pattern.

The main machine is an XP SP3 laptop with Intel wireless card operating in moderately noisy RF environment. Modem is a Billion 7404VGP clone (Open 824RLW)AVG Free, only Windows firewall running.

Looking in vpn.log I see some entries like this:

Code:
document.write('class="code">(cccmikey( at )wippien( point )com_auzzie-radius( at )wippien( point )com)050:44>'); Got packet PacketDataUnreliable (11)

Not sure if that gives a clue to the problem. Hamachi seems more stable than Wippien in my environment (when their mediation servers are actually working) so not sure if that helps at all in figuring the cause.

Intermittently the entire Jabber contact will go offline as well, but more often it's just the VPN component which dies.

More code in case it's useful...

Code:
document.write('class="code">(cccmikey( at )wippien( point )com_auzzie-radius( at )wippien( point )com)050:44>'); Got 1171 bytes from 192.168.0.242(2890)

If wodVPN is unable to ping each of remtoe contact within 15 seconds, VPN connectin is broken (and gets blue).

As for contacts going offline - not much I can do here. This is pretty regular TCP connection with XMPP server. If it's lost, that means Windows decided to close it on winsock stack level, and I can only "sit and watch it go...".

How bas is your wireless? Can you do somethign to improve it?
