this is what i was talking about for the hosts file.
in vista:
1.) Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2.) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3.) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4.) Click File -> Open
5.) type in "%windir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts" and click "Open"
8.) add the line "<servers_ip_address><tab><servers_name>" ex "5.0.0.1 tacobell"
9.) and close Notepad. Save when prompted.
in xp:
1.) click on your start menu and hit run
2.) type in "notepad %windir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts"
3.) add the line "<servers_ip_address><tab><servers_name>" ex "5.0.0.1 tacobell"
4.) and close Notepad. Save when prompted.
now wait a minute for it to parse the entries and update; then type in
"\tacobell" to reach that server
NOTE: make sure to not touch the line stating "127.0.0.1 localhost" or you will run into a world of trouble
