linux/unix support would be great, even if it were only a simplified version without GUI.

Enrico,

yes, it's on todo list. It wouldn't have GUI and special features, but for predefined JID it would connect and allow p2p services - most things that people need afterall.

This is the ONLY thing keeping me (and I'm sure many other people) from switching to Wippien. Some of my friends run Linux on their desktops, and I myself run it on a server that I have Hamachi running on. Until those boxes can run Wippien, I'm stuck with Hamachi :(

I'd like to throw support in with the linux version as well.

I'd be interested as to what you mean by not being quite as advanced though. I am currently using hamachi, but the linux server version just isn't able to route as easily as the windows version, to the point where I can't connect to linux systems together...

Would wippien have the same problem?

Phillip,

I don't know what you're referring to, can you explain it a bit more, so we can keep an eye on it during implementation?

Hi Kreso,

One of the most useful things about the windows hamachi clients is its ability to route using UPnP to succesfully route through many supporting routers (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upnp if you aren't sure :-) ) & the use of low-speed relays. This means of course that it will automatically open ports and such where possible (if the router supports it).

This feature however is missing (or broken) in the linux client, which makes a 2-way connection between 2 linux hamachi clients all but impossible. I.e., one client seems to be able to connect to the other, but the other doesn't ever display the line as actually open. I can initiate connections (like ssh) from only one direction!

This makes hamachi essentially useless for my needs (vpn-ing between several windows computers AND several linux-based computers) as I simply can't control hamachi enough to either a) make the linux clients route more intelligently using UPnP and low-speed relays if needed, or B) configure hamachi to specifically connect to an ip&port (i.e., manually define the route it should follow) to get to the other linux server behind the router.

This is something I notice you already provide some support for, so I am really keen to see the functionality in a linux client as well, as I will switch in an instant if this feature works :) .

The project sounds exciting either way... I am looking forward to your linux version :) . Let me know if you need testing help! I do software testing for a day job lol...

UPNP is on the way. Together with TCP for transport (now using UDP) which will make routers setup a bit easier.

As for 'when' I can't be specific.

Hello, it's now q4 2008. Wippien could be a Hamachi killer if there is multi platform support (Linux/BSD/OSX).
Lets make it happen!

I'm on 70% of it. I wish I have more free time :)
